‍ ‍Tasting Notes

  • Dark Chocolate – Rich and luxurious throughout

  • Black Pepper – Bold spice with excellent balance

  • Cedar – Warm, woody backbone that carries the blend

  • Molasses – Deep sweetness that lingers on the finish

First Impressions

The Dissident Heretic immediately stands out with its dark, oily wrapper and solid construction. It feels perfectly packed with an ideal amount of firmness. Pre-light aromas reveal dark chocolate, cedar, earth, and black pepper, while the cold draw offers notes of molasses and baking spices with just the right resistance.

Smoking Experience

  • First Third – The cigar opens with rich dark chocolate and cedar, quickly followed by black pepper that provides plenty of character without becoming overpowering. Thick, creamy smoke production and excellent balance make for an outstanding start.

  • Second Third – Molasses sweetness begins to emerge, complementing the cocoa and earthy core beautifully. The cigar remains full of flavour with excellent complexity and a slow, even burn. A single relight is needed midway through the smoke, but it has little impact on the overall flavour profile.

  • Final Third – The body increases slightly while maintaining impressive balance. Cedar, chocolate, pepper, and molasses continue to work harmoniously, finishing with plenty of richness and depth. The cigar remains enjoyable until the nub.

Pairings

  • Alcohol – Ron Zacapa XO (Guatemala) - Rich caramel, dark fruit, toasted oak, and spice perfectly complement the cigar's chocolate and molasses profile.

  • Tea – Yunnan Golden Tips Black Tea - Naturally sweet with notes of cocoa and malt, it enhances the cigar's richness while cleansing the palate between draws.

Music Pairing

β€œBall and Biscuit” – The White Stripes
Raw energy and depth complement the cigar's bold spice and chocolate notes.

Final Thoughts

The Dissident Heretic is a bold and thoroughly enjoyable Nicaraguan cigar, delivering rich layers of dark chocolate, cedar, pepper, and molasses with excellent balance and complexity. Aside from a single relight, the construction performs very well, allowing the blend to showcase its full potential.

Final Score: 9/10

Why not a 10?
A single relight was needed during the smoke, slightly interrupting an otherwise outstanding and highly refined smoking experience.

Only cigars that deliver flawless draw, balance, flavour evolution, construction and satisfaction get a 10.
