First Impressions

The Camacho Ecuador Robusto looks promising, with its dark Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and substantial feel in the hand. The blend combines that wrapper with a Brazilian Mata Fina binder and Honduran and Dominican filler. Pre-light aromas bring cocoa, earth, cedar, and pepper, but the cold draw is immediately much tighter than it should be, suggesting the cigar may struggle to open up properly.

Smoking Experience

First Third – The cigar starts with black pepper, oak, earth, and a little dark cocoa. There is plenty of flavour trying to come through, but the tight draw makes every puff harder work than it should be. The smoke feels concentrated but also quite dry and aggressive.
Second Third – Oak and leather become more dominant while the cocoa retreats. Unfortunately, the profile also becomes increasingly harsh, with pepper and dry wood overpowering the subtler flavours. Combined with the restricted draw, the cigar becomes tiring rather than enjoyable.
Final Third – The harshness intensifies and the profile loses most of its balance. Charred wood, pepper, and leather dominate, while the tight draw continues to restrict smoke production. Rather than improving toward the finish, the cigar becomes increasingly difficult to enjoy.

Pairings

Alcohol – Graham's 20 Year Old Tawny Port - Its dried fruit, caramel, and nutty sweetness provide a much-needed contrast to the cigar's dry pepper and harshness.
Tea – Nilgiri Frost Black Tea - Smooth, aromatic, and naturally sweet, giving the palate some relief from the cigar's aggressive character.

Final Thoughts

The Camacho Ecuador Robusto has the foundations of a bold and interesting cigar, but this particular example simply doesn't perform. There are flashes of cocoa, oak, leather, and classic Camacho pepper, but they're repeatedly overshadowed by the very tight draw and considerable harshness. Instead of being powerful but balanced, the cigar feels aggressive and unnecessarily difficult to smoke.

Final Score: 4/10

Why not a 10?
The draw was far too tight throughout, significantly restricting the smoking experience, while the flavour profile became quite harsh and unbalanced. Whatever complexity was hiding underneath never had the opportunity to properly develop.

Only cigars that deliver flawless draw, balance, flavour evolution, construction and satisfaction get a 10.
